Round vs. Oblong Front Hoof
Because of the shape of the coffin bone, front hooves should be more round in shape than hind feet. An elongated front hoof is not physiologically correct. The front hoof in the pictures below had extremely high heels, which probably contributed to the elongated hoof form. Correct trimming, a change in diet, larger pasture, and more movement have all contributed to this horse developing a more physiologically correct, round, front hoof form.
