Contracted Heels

The first picture shows a hoof with long, overgrown and contracted heels. The frog is also very narrow with a deep central sulcus. This type of heel contraction can be very uncomfortable for the horse and results in a lack of proper hoof mechanism. Decontraction was well underway one month after the first trim. By seven weeks after the first trim, the hoof showed marked improvement in decontracting. Click on each of the pictures below for larger images and additional details.
